It is quite common for this oil pressure switch to be the source of a minor oil leak. If the switch no longer functions correctly, you will not be warned of low oil pressure, which may result in serious engine damage.
For this reason, the system should be checked regularly. If the warning light does not illuminate when the ignition is switched on, the switch is likely defective and should be replaced. Once the engine is running, the warning light should go out. If it remains illuminated, this may indicate insufficient oil pressure. In that case, stop the engine immediately and investigate the cause before continuing to drive.
You can choose between two quality levels. The difference lies in the switching accuracy within the specified pressure range. The B quality also provides timely warning, but the switching point may vary slightly more within the stated tolerances. The A quality switches more accurately and remains closer to the specified pressure value or pressure range.
Additional information: Later WBX engines and all diesel engines are equipped with two oil pressure switches, each operating at a different pressure value. This system forms part of Volkswagen's dynamic oil pressure monitoring system, which monitors oil pressure at different engine speeds. To distinguish between the switches, each one has its own colour, provided the original switch is still fitted. Always compare the colour of the switch with the colour specified in the specifications, especially when multiple versions are available. These switches do not have a tapered thread and seal by means of a sealing washer.
