A quick and easy way to install an oil temperature sensor is in place of the oil pressure switch. Remove the oil pressure switch and install adapter 2600 in the crankcase. Then install both the oil pressure switch and the oil temperature sensor in the adapter.

Please note that the oil temperature is not measured accurately at this location. Tests have shown that the measured temperature may differ from the actual oil temperature by 10 to 15 °C.

For the most accurate possible oil temperature measurement, use a special dipstick for Type 1 engines. For Type 4, CT/CZ and WBX engines, use an adapter to replace the oil pressure plug, or a sensor that replaces the oil drain plug, if this is possible for your engine. This separate oil temperature sensor is, however, very suitable for use with a so-called universal Type 1 crankcase or a Type 3 crankcase that has been converted for use with a Type 1 engine. In this case, you can install the sensor in the cover plate where the oil filler pipe is mounted on a Type 3. Drill and tap a hole with the correct thread in the cover plate. This allows the sensor to measure the temperature directly in the oil.

This sensor is also suitable in most cases when you are not using a VDO gauge. However, check that the combination of the gauge and sensor indicates the correct temperature. You can test this by placing the sensor in boiling water. If the gauge indicates approximately 100 °C, the gauge and sensor are working correctly together.
