With this relay, the power supply to the electric fuel pump is automatically cut off as soon as the engine stops while the ignition is still switched on. Without such a relay, the fuel pump will continue to run when the engine has stalled, which can lead to a fire hazard in the event of an accident.

In addition, this relay protects the fuel pump against damage, such as overheating, which may occur when the engine stops while the ignition remains on.

As most classic Volkswagens are not equipped with an accessory position, this alone is a good reason to install a safety relay in combination with an electric fuel pump.

In addition to this separate relay, a complete kit is also available. This kit includes the relay with mounting base, pre-connected wiring, an inline fuse, and the necessary connection materials. It can be found under the “alternatives” tab.

Note: The operation of this relay can only be tested when it is installed in the vehicle, or in a test setup that simulates the complete ignition system.
