Fuel injection engines are equipped with a high pressure electric fuel pump. You can't install just any fuel pump, it has to meet the specifications of the injection system.
Volkswagen tried to create as many units as possible, that's why there are not many different models. The fuel pump mentioned here is more or less an exception and was only used on the last Beetles produced in Mexico with a fuel injection engine. These engines are recognizable by their engine code starting with ACD.
