Product description
When replacing a wheel cylinder, a set of brake shoes or carrying out regular maintenance, the rear axle nut must be loosened on most VW models in order to remove the brake drum. First remove the split pin, lock the rear wheel and then loosen the rear axle nut.
If the rear axle nut is damaged while being removed, do not refit it but replace it. Replacement is also recommended if a previous owner has damaged the nut. During installation, tighten the nut to the specified torque. If the hole for the split pin does not line up exactly with one of the slots in the nut, continue tightening the nut until it does. Always secure the nut with a new split pin (see Options tab).
The spanner size is listed in the specifications so you can check beforehand whether you have the correct tool. Do not try to knock the nut loose with a hammer and screwdriver; always use the proper tools. To lock the rear axle, you can use a locking bar that is secured to the brake drum or wheel hub flange with the wheel bolts or nuts. Use a rear axle nut wrench or a suitable socket to loosen and tighten the nut.
Order a set of split pins at the same time. These are required to secure the rear axle nut after installation. A used split pin must never be reused; always fit a new one (see Options tab).
