In off-road and drag-race use, the drive shafts have to endure a lot, because of the high forces released, the original joints fail quickly. Many off-road and drag-race vehicles therefore no longer use the standard 90 mm joints (from a Beetle, for example), but switch to those of a bus with a 100 mm diameter. For this modification you need not only the homokinets from a Bus, but also modified axle trunnions and flanges. The reinforced axle journal and flange listed here are intended for the Beetle, Karmann Ghia or Type 3 and have flanges of 100 mm and are suitable for mounting Bus homokinets (see options). In addition they are made of forged chrome molybdenum and therefore many times stronger than the original. The axle flanges (gearbox side) are delivered as a pair, excluding the plugs (see options) and the axle studs (wheel side). Are delivered each.

Besides axle trunnions and flanges you need Bus homokinets. You can take the standard homokinets for this (#21469), but it is better to use reinforced homokinets as well. Once you have made the decision to rebuild your axle journals and flanges, with the thought of using larger homokinets, it would be a shame to economize on the homokinets, which were the whole point of the project. The reinforced joints are equipped with a chrome-molybdenum cage (which contains the balls) and the inside and outside are made of a hardened alloy. The sealing plugs used for the custom reinforced axle flanges are the same as those used on a Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Type 3 or Kübel.
