Product description
A lighter flywheel allows the engine to respond more quickly and rev more easily. It is therefore particularly suitable for more powerful engines and engines that are regularly used at higher engine speeds.
This 200 mm flywheel for Type 1 and Type 3 engines is manufactured from forged chromoly steel. The forging process gives the material a denser and stronger structure than cast steel. This makes the flywheel better able to withstand high engine speeds, heavy loads and hard clutch engagement.
The flywheel is designed for an 8-dowel connection to the crankshaft, but it can also be fitted to an original crankshaft with 4 dowel pins. One of the eight holes is drilled asymmetrically, which means the flywheel can only be fitted to the crankshaft in one position. This is particularly important when the crankshaft, crankshaft pulley and flywheel are balanced together as one assembly.
When converting a standard crankshaft to eight dowel pins using the special drilling tool, make sure that the asymmetrical hole pattern is maintained. The required drilling tool is listed under the “Options” tab.
For standard and mildly tuned engines, a more economical cast steel version is also available. This flywheel is listed under the “Alternatives” tab.
Notes: Before installation, check that the dowel pins fit correctly in the holes and do not have excessive play. Too much play can cause the flywheel to work loose, potentially resulting in serious engine damage. In addition, only use a crankshaft oil seal without an additional dust lip. Oil seals with article numbers 1639 and 1640 are the most suitable. The larger radius of the running surface provides a stronger connection, but an additional dust lip would be damaged by the flywheel and cause oil leakage.
