The modern automobile offers many storage possibilities, making efficient use of every available space. It used to be different, our Volkswagen had the glove box as the only storage space. If you were lucky, you could put the road map in the pocket of the door panel. The accessory industry reacted early on to this situation by offering many additional storage options. The most popular accessory was a storage rack that could be mounted under the dashboard. Numerous models have been introduced on the market by various manufacturers, the Ra-Bambus company being by far the best known.
Ra-Bambus used a wooden frame rolled up with bamboo that formed the diamond-shaped bottom. For many brands, the bottom was made of a plastic or wooden board, creating a dark hole that filled with dust in no time. With the design of the Ra-Bambus, you had no problems with accumulated dust and you had natural light. Unfortunately, there was also a disadvantage to this design, you could only store big things, the little things fell through. Later, the outer edge of the bamboo was replaced by ivory-coloured plastic thread, leaving the bottom in bamboo, which was later completely changed into plastic thread. As plastic is much stronger than bamboo, broken bamboo underparts were a thing of the past. The design of the Ra-Bambus is still available today, no longer original but in the form of a reproduction as it was available in the 50s, 60s and 70s. You can choose between an authentic bamboo storage tray or the most famous version of Ra-Bambus made of plastic wire. The brackets are supplied with mounting material and, in the plastic version, a Ra-Bambus reproduction badge (except for the Volkswagen Bus).
