After intensive development, CAD modeling, 3D scanning and extensive field testing, EMPI has developed a patented fan shroud that cools more efficiently, directs airflow more effectively and fits better than the standard 30 hp models in our range, which are listed in the ``alternatives`` tab.

These Super Cooling fan shrouds offer a larger air volume and therefore greater cooling capacity. The internal fin structure has been optimized using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and extensively bench-tested. 3D scanning of several motor blocks and cooling fins ensures a perfect fit. It fits both standard fans (28-30 mm) and the thicker version known from 1600cc dual-inlet engines (37 mm).

The Super fan shroud has been completely redesigned to give it a more elegant and original appearance, while improving engine performance and extending its service life compared with conventional models. The redesigned air intake, inspired by the original Porsche 356 design, increases air flow to the interior and ensures even more efficient cooling. Air distribution over the engine has also been considerably improved: whereas the original fan shroud often favored cylinders 1 and 2, this model distributes the airflow evenly on both sides of the engine, ensuring a more constant temperature and more stable operation.

In addition, the ends of the cooling fins have been extended to simulate the effect of the original thermostat valves in the open position. Even if the thermostat is absent or malfunctioning, air flow remains optimal. The fit has been improved for original, Super Stock and Bubble-top crankcases, facilitating assembly and ensuring a better seal against the engine's sheet metal. In addition, the alternator mounting holes are now horizontally aligned and unnecessary openings have been removed, resulting in a narrower appearance and more efficient air conduction inside.

Extensive testing has shown that this EMPI Super fan shrouds offers 7% more total airflow than equivalent standard 30 hp cooling housings, 7% more cooling capacity than equivalent standard 30 hp models, and a cooling capacity 14% greater than that of an original VW fan shroud fitted with a 30 mm fan, and even 37% greater than that of a 37 mm fan. Combined with an external oil cooler and a 37 mm fan, this Super Cooling fan shroud provides up to 42% more overall engine cooling than a standard oil cooler in an OE shroud.
