Product description
An ignition coil gradually loses some of its output over the years. Our ignition coils provide a higher secondary voltage, so replacing the ignition coil is not only necessary when it is defective; replacing an old but still functioning coil also results in a stronger spark at the spark plugs.
Note: There is a difference between ignition coils for conventional ignition systems (contact points) and engines that were factory-equipped with electronic ignition. An ignition coil intended for conventional ignition cannot be used on engines with electronic ignition. An exception applies to engines that have been converted to electronic ignition afterwards or are equipped with a 123 ignition system; these continue to use a coil intended for conventional ignition.
Note on oil-filled ignition coils:
An oil-filled ignition coil is, as the name suggests, filled with a special insulating and cooling oil. This oil ensures that the internal windings of the coil remain properly cooled and electrically insulated. Therefore, the mounting position is of great importance.
When an oil-filled ignition coil is mounted vertically, the oil remains in the correct position inside the housing. The heat generated during operation can be dissipated optimally, and the electrical components remain fully immersed in oil. This guarantees a stable spark, a longer service life, and prevents internal damage.
When the coil is mounted horizontally or at an angle, the oil may shift. As a result, parts of the internal windings may run dry, causing insufficient cooling. This can lead to overheating, power loss, misfires, and in the worst case, a defective ignition coil. Incorrect mounting may also result in oil leakage.
For this reason, all manufacturers recommend mounting oil-filled ignition coils vertically at all times, even if this was not the original configuration. This ensures reliable operation and maximum service life.
