Product description
An ignition coil deteriorates slightly over the years. Our ignition coils give a more powerful secondary voltage. It is therefore not only necessary to replace the ignition coil in case of a defective ignition coil, but replacing an old ignition coil that is still working gives a stronger spark to the spark plugs.
Note: There is a difference between ignition coils for conventional ignition (contact points) and for engines that are equipped with electronic ignition at the factory. An ignition coil intended for conventional ignition cannot be used on engines with electronic ignition. The exception to this rule are engines that have subsequently been converted to electronic ignition or are equipped with an ignition coil 123, they continue to use an ignition coil intended for conventional ignition.
Note on oil-filled ignition coils:
An oil-filled ignition coil is, as the name suggests, filled with a special insulating and cooling oil. This oil ensures that the internal windings of the ignition coil remain properly cooled and electrically insulated. For this reason, the mounting position is very important.
When an oil-filled ignition coil is mounted upright, the oil is positioned correctly inside the housing. The heat generated during operation can be dissipated efficiently and the electrical components remain fully submerged in the oil. This ensures a stable spark, a longer service life and prevents internal damage.
If the ignition coil is mounted horizontally or at an angle, the oil may shift. As a result, parts of the internal windings may become exposed, leading to insufficient cooling. This can cause overheating, power loss, misfires and, in the worst case, ignition coil failure. Incorrect installation may also result in oil leakage.
For this reason, all manufacturers recommend mounting oil-filled ignition coils vertically at all times, even if this was not the original installation position. This ensures reliable operation and maximum service life.
