Even the fuel pump does not have eternal life, a leak to the outside will be visible and creates a fire hazard in the hot engine compartment. But it happens more often that the fuel pump leaks inside, the leak will be visible on the foot in the engine block. If the engine oil smells like gasoline, it is an internal leak. The oil level often also rises, which is why replacement is important because gasoline does not lubricate the engine block, which can cause serious damage to the engine.
Look out! As many engines no longer have an original fuel pump, it is important to check the length of the push rod. A bad year of construction fuel pump with the wrong push rod length causes problems, your pump is not efficient or you break the pump immediately after starting it. You must also make sure that the rod can move smoothly in the fuel pump holder, clean the fuel pump holder with a soft file if this is not the case (does not apply to type 4 engines). If the shaft cannot move smoothly through the housing, it may jam when the engine warms up and the fuel pump will not run anymore.
