The shift control mechanism of the Vanagon was different in the first years compared to the following years, it is mainly the specific parts of the connecting rod that have not been produced for years.
If gear shifting is a problem, it is often because of the gear shifting mechanism, which is quite complex with multiple couplings. The first gearbox coupling is equipped with two plastic balls that are often worn and cause excessive play.
Complete replacement of the coupling solves the problem of gear shifting.
