The gear lever of the 3rd generation VW Bus has become much more complicated than on its predecessors. This was done to make the gear change as smooth as possible. Although it doesn't have to be your gearbox, most gear shifting problems are in the shifting mechanism under the car or in the area just below the gearshift lever. If the problem is with your shift lever, you can locate and replace the worn part, but you don't know how long all the other parts will last.
