Product description
emoving the oil filler can only be done using the correct tools (see the ‘Related items’ tab). If you tried to do this without the proper tools, this is probably the reason why you are now looking for a new oil filler.
There are two main versions: the model with a breather tube for crankcase ventilation (which exits below the engine tinware), and the later model where this tube is no longer required.
Oil filler with breather tube
The oil filler with breather tube is identical to the original model for the engines listed under the applications. Is your engine not listed, but does it have a breather tube? Then you can still use this oil filler. Only the shape of the breather tube differs slightly from the original, without any functional consequences. Because appearance also matters, this filler is available not only in the original black version but also in a fully chrome version. The chrome version is supplied with a chrome cap; with the black version, the cap must be ordered separately (listed under the ‘Options’ tab) or transferred from your old oil filler.
Chrome oil filler without breather tube
The chrome oil filler without breather tube has the same shape as the chrome model mentioned above, but without the breather tube. This version is often installed for a “clean look”. Volkswagen later removed the breather tube as well. You might therefore think this model always fits, but please note: the connection for the crankcase breather hose is significantly smaller on this type than on the original part. If you install a performance air filter, this is not a problem: it uses a 13 mm hose, just like this filler. However, if you use the original plastic air filter housing, the hose will no longer fit without an adapter. In other words: this model fits almost all engines, provided you take the type of air filter into account.
Black oil filler without breather tube
The black oil filler without breather tube is a perfect reproduction of the original model. It has the correct diameter for the crankcase breather hose and is therefore suitable for use with the original air filter. If you want to keep the engine 100% original and it falls within the listed production years, this is the correct choice. This version is supplied without a cap; order this separately if required (see the ‘Options’ tab).
