Product description
To ensure smoother and lighter clutch operation, Volkswagen introduced a hydraulic clutch system from 1980 onwards. No more issues with breaking cables or a heavy clutch pedal, but smooth and comfortable operation. This modification significantly improved driving comfort.
Like any hydraulic system, this system is also subject to wear. The clutch cylinders do not last forever and may eventually develop leaks or internal wear.
The master cylinder is located behind the clutch pedal and is responsible for building up hydraulic pressure. The fluid is then transported through rigid lines to the slave cylinder mounted on the gearbox. The slave cylinder subsequently operates the clutch fork.
Use DOT 4 brake fluid to fill the system.
