Product description
From 8.1970 Volkswagen made a large part of the crankcases universal, so they can be used for 1200 and 1300 and 1600 cc engines. This system was later supplemented by a crankcase that could also be used for type 3 engines. It was interesting from a production and financial point of view that the same crankcase could be used for all engines.
Some adjustments were necessary, in particular the installation of the oil cooler for the 1200 cc engines. In these engines, the M6 oil cooler has threaded ends, while the so-called universal crankcase has 8 mm fixing holes. In addition, the threaded end that is screwed into the crankcase is also provided with an M8 thread, whereas this must be M6 for the 1200 cc oil cooler.
In order to allow the mounting of a 1200 cc oil cooler, bushings have been developed which are clamped into the holes for the 8 mm threaded ends to mount the oil cooler with M6 threaded ends. If you do not use these bushings, there will be play in the mounting, which will result in oil leakage. In other words, check the holes in the housing before mounting the oil cooler.
There are also degraded bands, M8 on one side and M6 on the other. Remove the M8 stud and replace it with an adapter stud (shown in the Options tab). You can also mount the 1200cc oil cooler. Don't forget to order the correct seals, these are also indicated in the Options tab.
These gearboxes and studs are not only suitable for 1200 cc engines but for all casings originally intended for a 1300 or 1600 cc dual port engine that are now used for a single port engine.
