Product description
These wing nuts first appeared on non-export Beetle models, i.e. those without rail-mounted controls, where the seats were mounted directly on the base plate.
When the Volkswagen Bus was introduced, the same wing nuts were applied to the Kombi version and to the double-cab Pick-up, so that the bench seats could be removed without tools. This did not apply to the other Combi passenger vehicles, which were fitted with standard wing nuts. Many owners who used their buses exclusively for passenger transport nevertheless replaced the fixed nuts with wing nuts, as it was convenient to remove the rear or middle bench seat without tools, freeing up space for luggage or other uses.
These wing nuts were also used to secure the emergency seat in the Ambulance version of the VW Bus, and to fix the spare wheel on the VW Thing.
