Product description
The Flame-Thrower ignition coil is designed to complement our electronic ignition kits as specified in the application. We therefore recommend using only this very powerful ignition coil.
In addition, this 40,000-volt Flame-Thrower ignition coil can be used for almost all distributors equipped with conventional ignition points. The higher voltage allows wider spark plug spacing for more power, smoother response and better fuel economy.
This ignition coil has an internal resistor that makes it compatible with many ignition systems, including our popular 123 distributors which are listed in the related parts tab (12 volt version only).
Below is a brief summary of the applications for which you can use the Flame-Thrower.
12 volts
our electronic ignition kits listed under application
conventional contact points to replace the original
all 123 distributors (listed under related parts tab)
6 volts
the perfect replacement for the original but now much more powerful
Note on oil-filled ignition coils:
An oil-filled ignition coil is, as the name suggests, filled with a special insulating and cooling oil. This oil ensures that the internal windings of the coil remain properly cooled and electrically insulated. Therefore, the mounting position is of great importance.
When an oil-filled ignition coil is mounted vertically, the oil remains in the correct position inside the housing. The heat generated during operation can be dissipated optimally, and the electrical components remain fully immersed in oil. This guarantees a stable spark, a longer service life, and prevents internal damage.
When the coil is mounted horizontally or at an angle, the oil may shift. As a result, parts of the internal windings may run dry, causing insufficient cooling. This can lead to overheating, power loss, misfires, and in the worst case, a defective ignition coil. Incorrect mounting may also result in oil leakage.
For this reason, all manufacturers recommend mounting oil-filled ignition coils vertically at all times, even if this was not the original configuration. This ensures reliable operation and maximum service life.
