Product description
There is a wide choice when it comes to bumper quality. You can opt for a chrome model in grade A or B, a polished stainless steel model, a black lacquered model, or an untreated bumper. Below you will find more information about the different grades and types available.
Chrome-plated steel of quality A
The great difference in quality between this quality A and the lower quality B is not only a much better chrome plating that is applied in Europe, but also the thickness of the steel is 0.3 mm thicker (1.5 mm for Quality A instead of 1.2 mm for Quality B). The back is finished with a high quality two-component paint. It should be noted that this is a steel bumper which, despite its superior chrome coating, can still rust without maintenance. If you want a maintenance-free bumper that will never rust again, choose polished stainless steel bumpers, our best quality (if available, under the alternatives tab).
Chrome-plated steel of quality B
If the budget is not enough for a quality A chrome bumper or stainless steel bumper, you can choose these quality B bumpers. With this type of bumper, it is necessary to take into account a lower chrome quality. After each trip in the rain, you will need to dry your bumpers with a cloth, if you do not, the rust will quickly take over. In addition, the steel used is also 0.3 mm thinner than quality A, which reduces strength compared to the original or quality A. The back is provided with a corrosion-resistant layer that serves as the basis for a final coat of paint that has not yet been applied.
Untreated bare steel
Volkswagen has released many versions of bare steel bumpers painted in one colour instead of chrome plated, these untreated bumpers are the best base for this application. They are supplied with an oil layer to prevent corrosion in the warehouse, some surface rust may still occur. To make A-quality chrome bumpers, these bumpers are also used, which says enough about the quality and reliability of these untreated bumpers.
Note: All chrome bumpers for later model years feature black tape in the recess, exactly as Volkswagen used at the time. On the luxury models, a rubber bumper was fitted in this place. If your bumper is suitable for this, the rubber will be listed on the ‘Options’ tab. If it is not listed there, then no rubber bumper will fit on this bumper and you will have to make do with the black tape, as was also used at the factory.
