Product description
The anti-roll bar reduces body roll in corners and provides more direct and stable handling. A thicker and stiffer anti-roll bar reduces body movement and improves steering response, but the balance between the front and rear of the car must be maintained.
This heavy-duty front anti-roll bar has a larger diameter than the standard version and provides a clear improvement in handling.
The mounting clamps and rubbers are not included with every version. For torsion bar suspension models, with the exception of the T2 Bay, we recommend using the clamps specially designed for this purpose. The original clamps can often be reused, but installation can be quite difficult due to the stiffer urethane rubbers. If the required clamps and urethane rubbers are not included, they are listed under the Options tab.
On the 1302 and 1303 Beetle and the T2 Bay, the existing mounting clamps can be reused. If they are rusty, distorted or worn, we recommend replacing them.
For cars with IRS rear suspension, we recommend fitting a suitable rear anti-roll bar in addition to a thicker front anti-roll bar. Increasing only the roll stiffness at the front changes the balance of the car and can cause more understeer. A properly matched front and rear anti-roll bar provides more balanced handling.
On models with swing axles, a rear anti-roll bar is not essential when fitting a heavy-duty front anti-roll bar, but it can further improve handling. Where applicable, the available versions are listed under the Options tab.
For torsion bar suspension models, the front anti-roll bars are available, depending on the model, in standard, lowered and narrowed versions. Always choose the version that matches the front axle and ride height of your car. Do not simply use a standard anti-roll bar on a lowered torsion bar front axle, as it may sit too close to the road and hit obstacles.
This does not apply in the same way to the 1302 and 1303 Beetle because of their different front suspension. Always choose the anti-roll bar specifically intended for the model and ride height. For the T2 Bay, you should also check whether the anti-roll bar is suitable for the front axle and ride height being used.
