The flywheel bolt on the Type 1, Type 3 and CT/CZ engines is secured with a spring washer. When replacing the flywheel bolt, it is advisable to order this spring washer with it. After years of being under tension the ring loses its spring force, it would be a disaster if the flywheel bolt would come loose precisely because of this with all its consequences.

On Type 4 engines, it is a requirement to replace the washer. The flywheel bolts have a toothing that engages the lock plate. The locking plate is therefore damaged and can only be used once. The overview below shows the flywheel bolt or bolts in addition to the spring washer or locking plate:

Reinforced flywheel bolts with washer (not for Type 4) :
With a tuned engine much higher forces are released, everything must be tuned to this, including the flywheel bolt. The intention is that the flywheel cannot come loose in any way. The below bolts with washers are not only intended for heavily tuned engines, but can also serve as a replacement for the original (after all, it is an improved version). There are two versions: a standard bolt fitted with a large washer that distributes the force better and also secures the flywheel fitting pins. And a chrome-molybdenum bolt that no longer has a felt sealing ring, but a rubber sealing ring and also has a larger washer. More information can be found by clicking on the reference :
