Sytytyskela heikkenee hieman vuosien mittaan. Meidän sytytyskelamme antavat tehokkaamman toisiojännitteen. Siksi sytytyskelan vaihtaminen ei ole tarpeen ainoastaan silloin, kun sytytyskela on viallinen, vaan vanhan, vielä toimivan sytytyskelan vaihtaminen antaa sytytystulppiin voimakkaamman kipinän.
Huomautus : Sytytyskelojen välillä on eroa perinteisen sytytyksen (kosketuspisteet) ja sellaisten moottoreiden välillä, jotka on tehtaalla varustettu elektronisella sytytyksellä. Tavanomaiseen sytytykseen tarkoitettua sytytyskelaa ei voi käyttää moottoreissa, joissa on elektroninen sytytys. Poikkeuksena tähän sääntöön ovat moottorit, jotka on myöhemmin muutettu elektroniseen sytytykseen tai jotka on varustettu sytytyskelalla 123, ne käyttävät edelleen tavanomaiseen sytytykseen tarkoitettua sytytyskelaa.
