Product description
When restoring a Beetle, the front apron is often one of the body panels that is no longer in good condition due to rust, previous damage or earlier repairs. The lower section at the front in particular has had a lot to endure over the years.
This front apron is intended for versions with a bumper fitted with overrider bars. These bumpers were originally mainly used in countries where additional protection was required or customary for safety reasons. They have also become very popular in countries where this version was not supplied as standard. Many Beetles have therefore been converted over the years from the normal half-round bumpers to bumpers with overrider bars, which are also often referred to as guards.
The panel forms the lower front section of the body and is provided with the correct openings and shapes for this bumper version.
When replacing it, the old front apron is removed from the body and the new panel is welded in. Always carefully trial-fit the panel before welding it permanently in place. Also check the fit against the front wings, bonnet, bumper brackets and surrounding bodywork.
