The clamping edges between which the rubber of the front trunk and engine bonnet are slid are a rust breeding ground and will therefore have to be addressed at each restoration. The original clamping edges are factory-fitted with spot welds, it would be best if you restore them in the same way. If you do not own a spot welder, you will have to imitate spot welding. By briefly inserting a weld in the middle of the strip, you burn it and weld it to the sheet metal. By introducing the heat generated during welding, you can effortlessly bend the strip to the shape of the bodywork. Then you grind the welds flush with the seal channel and the rubber can be remounted. Seal the area between the clamping area and the body with a mastic kit just before applying the paint, so that no more moisture can get in between. The seal channels are supplied in a length of 110 cm each. If you need to replace all the channels and your VW Beetle is not equipped with Mexican type rubbers (mounted on the trunk or engine hood), you will need 4 for the front and 2 for the rear. If your VW Beetle is equipped with Mexican style rubbers, only the channel under the windscreen is present and you can only use one length.
