Our classic Volkswagens are generally equipped with conventional incandescent bulbs. Volkswagen never fitted H4 lighting from the factory to 6-volt electrical systems; these cars were equipped with conventional Duplo bulbs.
If you want a significantly higher light output from your 6-volt electrical system, you can replace the existing headlight unit with one suitable for H4 lighting. This headlight unit can be found under the Related parts tab. Combined with the 6-volt H4 bulbs listed here, this makes a world of difference compared with the old Duplo bulbs, while allowing you to retain the original 6-volt electrical system.
Halogen bulbs also have a limited service life. Almost everyone has experienced having to replace a bulb while on the road or just before departure. It is therefore advisable to check the lighting regularly and replace defective bulbs immediately.
It is also recommended to always carry a set of spare bulbs in the car. This allows you to replace a defective bulb immediately while on the road and prevents you from having to continue driving with lighting that is not functioning properly.
