Product description
The T1 Bus (Split Bus) is originally equipped with a relatively small mirror surface, something that would probably not pass any modern technical inspection today. Complaints quickly reached Volkswagen, but little was changed until the 1967 model change. However, an optional mirror with a much larger mirror surface became available in the form of the so-called “elephant ear”.
Under normal driving conditions, this mirror is positioned upwards. When towing a trailer, the mirror can be tilted to provide a better and deeper rearward view. Like many original accessories and options from that era, the “elephant ear” mirror has now returned as a reproduction.
This version replaces both the mirror and the mirror arm and features a stainless steel rear housing with a chrome-plated mirror arm.
To help prevent damage in minor collisions, the outer edge is fitted with a protective rubber strip. This type of protection was widely used at the time on so-called extension mirrors, which provided improved rear visibility when towing a trailer.
