Volkswagen Beetles produced in Mexico after 1985 come standard with improved rubber for the trunk and engine lid. From these years on, the rubber is no longer clamped between the edges of the bead but directly on the trunk lid and engine lid. Not only the sealing has improved a lot, but the problem of rust between the edges of the bead and the bodywork is also largely solved, the only edge of the bead that is still maintained is the one under the windscreen.

This improved rubber is not only suitable for years after 1985 but can be used on almost all Volkswagen Beetles. The only thing to consider is that you have to remove all the beads, except for those under the windshield.

For the front trunk or hood, the rubber consists of two parts, the one attached to the front hood and the one under the windshield. The hood seal consists of only one part that is attached directly to the engine hood. Check the options and related parts tabs for parts other than those listed here.

Note for cars up to 1961: If you want to use the Mexcio style seal for the rear hood of a car up to 1961 (VIN3 862 488), take the seal from the hood up to 7.1967 as the seal for the underside of the windshield.

Note: These Mexican-style front hood and engine lid rubbers are not universal clamping profiles as they are often offered. They do not contain any metal that would leave rust marks after a few months, but like the original, they are wrapped in plastic with a rubber gasket and also have a drain on the underside. The drain holes (two for the trunk and one for the engine lid) must be at the bottom of the trunk. The part under the windshield must be passed through the beads as originally.
