Product description
When developing the Volkswagen Thing, one thing was essential: it had to be usable on all terrains. The Beetle chassis was used as a base, but with numerous modifications to improve off-road capabilities.
The shock absorbers never came from a Beetle or any other Volkswagen model; they were designed specifically for the Thing. Not so much in terms of model, but above all in terms of tensile and compressive strength: at low speeds, they were 1.5 times stronger and, at high speeds, even 2 times stronger than those of the Beetle. This made a significant contribution to the Thing's off-road performance.
BOGE produced these shock absorbers under license from Volkswagen, but unfortunately they have not been available as original equipment for many years, and BOGE has no right to reproduce them without Volkswagen's authorization. But they can be reproduced, and this is what has been done with the shock absorbers listed here, among others.
These are faithful reproductions of original, unused BOGE shock absorbers. The greatest challenge of this project was to find a completely new, unused BOGE shock absorber with the Volkswagen logo and part number. After years of searching, we succeeded in obtaining a perfect reproduction.
All you have to do is remove the shock absorbers from your old Beetle and replace them with ones identical to the models your Thing left the factory, with impeccable roadholding.
