Product description
Doors are a point of attention in every restoration, especially the underside suffers from corrosion, which can be partly avoided by regularly checking that the drainage holes are not closed. The window and vent window are sealed fairly well with rubber, but you cannot prevent water from seeping in. And then there is also condensation in the door.
If only the bottom of the door needs to be replaced, there are spare parts available (see the tab with replacement parts and related parts), but you must be an experienced restorer to ensure that the entire door panel will not be deformed by heat and that you will need to use a lot of filler unnecessarily.
These door panels offer the best solution, but with some comments on the application. These are panels for Brazilian VW Beetles that differ in many ways from the German or Mexican models. The differences are listed below and how you can adjust them, allowing you to use these door panels to restore your door in the best possible way.
VW Beetle from 8.1964 to 7.1967 :
The recess for the door handle and the underside shell has many similarities with those of the German VW Beetles built between 8/1964 and 7/1967 and can therefore be used for this purpose. The only difference is the mirror hole in the left door and the recess for the door handle has a raised edge. If you use the sheet metal as a whole, you can easily weld the mirror hole and the raised edge can be flattened and the hole can be touched up for a correct adjustment of the door handle. The latter is not necessary, you can also leave the edge raised like this, but for originality, flattening is recommended.
The outer sheet extends up to about 10 cm above the vent window rebate, which makes it unusable for the convertible version where you have to shorten the panel at the top.
VW Beetle from 8.1967:
From the moulding the Brazilian door is higher, which does not match the doors produced in Germany or Mexico, this part will have to be sharpened off. The shell under the door handle is the same size as the German doors from 8.1970 and later but doesn't affect the fit of the hilt for the years 8.1967 to 7.1970. If the top of your existing door can still be used, this is a perfect restoration panel, partly because the top is not usable after all, we can mention with these panels that they can be used for both the sedan and convertible version.
