Product description
When replacing a brake cylinder, a set of brake shoes, or performing regular maintenance, most VW models require unscrewing the rear axle nut to remove the brake drum. First remove the cotter pin, lock the rear wheel and loosen the rear axle nut.
If the rear axle nut is damaged when unscrewed, do not replace it, but replace it. Even if a previous owner damaged the nut, it is best to replace it. If the nut is tight, keep turning until the hole for a notch falls into the nut and always secure it with a new cotter pin (see options tab).
The wrench size is listed as an extra, so you can check to see if you have the right wrench. Do not try to loosen the nut with a hammer and screwdriver, but make sure you have the right tool. To lock the rear axle, use a locking bar attached to the wheel hub drum or flange with the wheel bolts or nuts. To loosen the nut, use a rear axle wrench or socket wrench.
Don't forget to order a set of cotter pins, which you will need to secure the nut after tightening it to the proper torque. A pin cannot be used a second time, so always order an extra one, it is listed in the options tab.
