A leak in the inlet path can lead to troublesome and sometimes difficult to find malfunctions. A vacuum is created and if a leak occurs, the engine does not start properly, idles poorly or stops spontaneously. The inlet gasket must therefore be of high quality in order to be properly sealed.
Whether it is a metal gasket, a ring or a paper gasket, do not use a liquid gasket, the gasket itself must do the job.
If you have purchased a set of gaskets, the inlet gaskets are always included.
If you want to modify (enlarge) the inlet ports, a larger gasket must be used, look under the alternatives tab where stronger gaskets with a larger contact surface are mentioned. They are made of paper and can be cut to the desired size. Even if you are fitting an intake manifold for larger carburetors, you will need stronger seals. These are usually equipped with a larger foot with doors that are also larger.
Note: For Type 1 and Type 3 single intake engines, this is a sealing ring that is pressed so far away that it is sometimes barely visible that the ring is still present. Many people fit a new sealing ring and neglect the old one, resulting in leakage, so always remove the old ring from the cylinder head before fitting a new one.
