Product description
You might think that wear on the top surface is the most common reason for replacing a horn button, but this is not the case. The main cause of damage is broken or damaged edges resulting from incorrect removal.
The horn button is held in the steering wheel by a spring mechanism. Therefore, do not use a screwdriver to lever it out at one point, as this can easily damage the edge of the horn button or the steering wheel.
Use a thin plastic trim removal tool and carefully insert it between the horn button and the steering wheel. Lift the button only slightly and then work your way around it so that the spring mechanism gradually releases. Once one side has come loose, keep it slightly raised and release the rest in the same way. Finally, pull the horn button as straight as possible out of the steering wheel.
If the horn button is very tight, preferably use two thin plastic trim tools and work around it step by step. Do not try to force the button upwards from one side only; this is exactly what causes the edge damage so often seen on old horn buttons.
