Product description
This VDO oil temperature sensor replaces the M12 oil drain plug on Type 4 engines in a T2 Bay. It provides an easy way to connect an oil temperature gauge without drilling an additional hole in the crankcase or using an adapter in place of the oil pressure relief valve plug. The sensor is installed directly in the existing drain opening. The wiring must be disconnected at every oil change; this is not necessary with the adapter listed under the Alternatives tab.
Type 4 engines up to 12.1971 were factory-fitted exclusively with an M12 drain plug. Later engines could have either M12 or M14. Always check the size fitted to your engine. Many original M12 crankcase threads were also enlarged to M14 after the thread became damaged. An early engine may therefore now have an M14 drain plug. Always measure the drain plug or threaded opening before ordering.
