Volkswagen Germany has never really been involved in sports exhaust, Volkswagen Mexico, on the other hand, has competed with the large number of manufacturers who were already active in the field of sports exhaust for air-cooled Volkswagen. At the time the GT Motorsport was introduced to the market, there was not a single spaghetti exhaust available that used the space under the rear apron. With the GT Motorsport, VW Mexico had a best-seller, there were even times when this exhaust was produced more than the original model. Even today, it is still the best-selling sports exhaust for the Volkswagen Beetle and the Karmann Ghia. The combination of spaghetti for more engine power and efficiency and the use of the space under the rear apron have ensured success.
The GT motorsport exhaust is available in 2 versions: entirely in polished stainless steel, or in steel with a black coating and chrome ends.
The stainless steel version is not only more beautiful to look at, it's an EMPI-revised version that allows for greater power gains. What's more, it's virtually indestructible, unlike the black-coated version.
For both exhausts, the sound is much deeper than the original, but remains civilized, thanks to the combination of a central silencer at the front and end silencers in the exhaust pipes (like the original).
The tailpipes have a diameter of 50 mm, giving a robust appearance compared with the standard 35 mm pipes. The heater connection between the heat exchanger and the fan shroud, so you fit an aluminum heater pipe that connects directly to the heat exchanger, i.e. without the intervention of intermediate pots as was the case with your original exhaust.
Note: Exhaust pipes may occasionally touch the recesses in the rear panel. In most cases, the rear panel has been replaced by a B-quality panel, and the recesses are therefore shallower than the original or A-grade recesses. It's also possible that, when new gearbox rubbers were fitted, the engine was raised slightly. In most cases, simply bending the exhaust slightly will solve the problem.
