Many classic Volkswagens require special attention to the floor pans during restoration. Years of use, moisture and dirt often result in severe corrosion and, in many cases, complete rust-through.
If the damage is limited, repairing only the affected area may be an option. However, for a durable, high-quality restoration, it is recommended to drill out the original spot welds and replace the complete floor pan. This preserves the construction as Volkswagen originally designed it.
Although the overall dimensions of the floor pans have changed very little over the years, there are differences in the pressings. These details are especially important for an authentic restoration. Therefore, always choose the correct version that matches the production year of your Volkswagen.
The later Karmann Ghia floor pans listed here are virtually identical in dimensions and construction to those of the Trekker. They can therefore also be used perfectly for the restoration of a Trekker.
