Measuring rear wheel geometry / Oil pressure gauge / Replace dynamo bearings

Wheel geometry should be adjusted after a total chassis overhaul, as well as after a severe shock, such as after an accident. A poorly adjusted rear axle will affect, or make impossible, the adjustment of the front wheel geometry. It will negatively affect handling, as well as cause a lot of wear on the tires and rear axle components. There are two settings to check regarding the rear axle: wheel camber toe

VW has provided very few standard engine diagnostics in the dashboard. A generator light that goes off when the alternator supplies charging current to the battery, and a light that goes off when the engine oil has reached a certain pressure. Not much to work with. We`ll talk about measuring oil pressure in this article; in the next issue, we`ll measure oil temperature and cylinder head temperature. The electrical circuit will be explained, and we`ll also look at how to interpret the information obtained. Gauges are handy, but they don`t always tell the whole story.

We will replace the bearings of a 105 mm dynamo, from a VW Type 1 engine. We show in this article the drawings for all dynamos used by VW in the Type 1 engines. We start the disassembly on the pulley side of the dynamo, this is also the side where the carbon brushes can be seen. In the next edition we will perform the diagnosis of the dynamo.
