At first glance, the nuts used to fix the ball joints on the Volkswagen Type 3 seem standard, especially since Volkswagen has catalogued them under a reference number with an "N" (for Normteile, or standard parts). However, these are not nuts you can buy just anywhere.
In fact, these nuts have a large M20 x 1.5 thread, a low (flat) shape and a hardness of 22H. This hardness is essential for secure and reliable fastening of parts such as steering knuckles.
Be careful when buying these nuts elsewhere: always check that they have the required hardness. If they come with a new ball joint, you can assume they're perfect. On the other hand, if they are bought separately, you run a risk if this is not explicitly stated.
Our nuts are exactly like the original: they have the right size, the right hardness and are exclusively intended for mounting Type 3 ball joints.
Note: Don't forget to order the underlying spring washers ("options" tab), as they lose their clamping capacity over time and you'll need to replace them too.
