Product description
Nowadays, lock nuts are often secured by an internal plastic locking device. Locking nuts have been available in this form for many years, but in some applications Volkswagen has been using the classic form of fastening for a very long time, crown nuts which are secured by means of a cotter pin.
The reason for the use of crown nuts could be that you can continue to reuse the nut, which is not possible with a modern locknut. The only thing you have to replace when reinstalling is the cotter pin.
It is important that the axle on which it is screwed has a hole for a cotter pin. If this is not the case, you will have to use a modern locknut (indicated in the "alternatives" tab).
When ordering, don't forget to order cotter pins, these are listed on the "options" tab.
