In many places, nuts are welded into the sheet metal to secure various other parts of the body.
The most famous weld nuts can be found in the inner fenders of the Volkswagen Beetle. The same weld-on nuts are also used on a Volkswagen pickup with an extended loading bed to secure the tailgate locks, among other things. The welding nuts mentioned here are the same as the original for the applications mentioned, but can of course be used universally for many other purposes.
