Product description
The oil on Type 1 engines until September 1992 was only filtered with the strainer behind the crankcase cover. Only in October 1992 did Volkswagen finally change this to a much better filter system, a replaceable modern filter was mounted behind the oil pump. It is incomprehensible why this had to take so long. The strainer behind the crankcase cover only stops coarse dirt, while clean engine oil is so important in an air-cooled engine, it is not only a lubricant, but also contributes its part to engine cooling.
It is definitely worth considering replacing your existing oil pump with this full flow oil pump that features a replaceable filter element. This allows the oil to be filtered many times better before it reaches bearings, significantly extending engine life.
The oil pump features longer gears than are fitted as standard in cars through September 1992 and therefore pumps the oil around faster, resulting in better lubrication and cooling.
The included oil filter should be replaced every 10,000 km; stock an extra filter just to be sure (see "Replacement Parts" tab). The gasket between the crankcase and oil pump is not included, take it extra (see 'Options' tab).
Note: fill the oil filter with oil before installing it, this allows for a faster build-up of oil pressure and less air in the oil system.
Year of manufacture recognition tips: If you can't figure out what your build year is, here are some recognition points :
Pump #1806 is mounted are with 8 mm studs and the camshaft sprocket is mounted on three points.
On pump #1807, the camshaft sprocket is mounted on 4 mounting points.
If a faster camshaft from our range is mounted, it is always with 3 mounting studs, so take your oil pump #1806 .
