The air vents in the Karmann Ghia's nose are not simple perforated slots, but feature aluminum inserts. The Karmann Ghia has always been the most luxurious air-cooled Volkswagen, and this is reflected in the many details that have made this sports car unique.
To prevent the grilles from damaging the paintwork, they are mounted on a rubber lip. This rubber flange has an open and a closed side. This helps absorb vibrations, which would not be the case with a solid rubber rim.
