With every restoration, the rubber in the boot and tailgate always needs to be replaced, as climatic influences have rendered it unusable.
The Volkswagen Beetle, the Karmann Ghia and the VW Type 3 have the trunk up front, while the VW Type 3 is the only one to have the luxury of an extra trunk in the back.
In the case of the Volkswagen Bus, we're not talking about the trunk but about the cargo area. The rubbers mentioned here are those of the tailgate and side door of the pick-up versions, not to be confused with the tailgate that closes the engine compartment.
With the Volkswagen Beetle, the rubber is pushed into the bead, use universal grease to push the rubber through the bead along its entire length. If this does not work, gently push it between the edge of the bead with a thick flathead screwdriver. With the last Volkswagen Beetle series that drove in Mexico, Volkswagen finally made an improvement, only the windshield rubber is pushed into a beading, the rubber is tightened on the hood. Not only is the hood better sealed, but a large part of the beadings are no longer present, which is a breeding ground for rust.
With the Volkswagen Type 3 Notchback and Fastback, we don't have a ready-made solution for the rear trunk, you can use the rubber from the front trunk, shorten it and glue it again, the profile of the rubber is the same, only the size differs.
The rubber is of a very high quality A (equal to the original). Only the most common trunk rubbers for the VW Beetle are available in an economical version.
