Product description
For buses until July 1972 there is no complete new or reconditioned steering box available, the only thing you can do is take care of your existing steering box. The part most subject to wear is the steering rack pin, a worn pin causes play and is usually the reason that the steering rack needs an overhaul. Too much steering play is not only legally unacceptable, but also life-threatening! Make sure to restore your steering rack to the play value as it was at the factory. The pitman arm is driven by this steering pin, which in turn drives the worm gear. During steering, large forces are released between the worm gear and this pin, resulting in wear on the pin. In many cars, maintenance on the steering rack is overlooked; inadequate lubrication can contribute to accelerated wear of the steering rack pin.
#23369 : Bus until July 1967
#23368 : Bus from august 1967 until july 1972
For buses from August 1972 to July 1979 and T25 buses, a completely new steering rack is available.
It often happens that the driver thinks he is dealing with steering box play, while the steering adaptor is causing this, which is even more dangerous than steering box play. If the adapter is torn off, you're steeringless! Replace the rubber adapter before driving any further.
