The color and/or treatment of the sheet metal part may differ from the picture
Product description
As early as 1963, it was possible to fit your Split Bus with a sliding door instead of the standard hinged doors. Your Bus then entered the category of special versions.
It was only after the model change in 1968 that the sliding door was fitted as standard, and the hinged doors abandoned. If you are the proud owner of a Split Bus equipped with a sliding door, a number of parts are similar to those of its successor, but the sheet metal is not.
If the underside was not properly protected at the time, it is very vulnerable and will show rust holes over the years.
Most sheet metal parts today are available as new, so restoration simply involves drilling out the spot welds and replacing them.
This also applies to the inner sill mentioned here, which is specifically intended for VW Buses with sliding rather than hinged doors.
