Fluid seals of all kinds should be part of your workshop equipment. When you work on the engine and transmission, you will need liquid gaskets in addition to the standard ones.
There are different types of fluid seals. Some gaskets are intended for a specific use and others, like the ones mentioned here, are universally applicable.
SI 5926 blue silicone seal
The most universal seal that can be used for various purposes, bearing in mind that this seal is oil and water resistant but not fuel resistant. To be used as an additional seal with paper or cork seals. It is not recommended to use this gasket between crankcase halves for example and not at all for the head gasket of waterboxer engines (waterboxer WBX) and not under the head nuts of these engines. Use only the appropriate liquid gasket (mentioned on the related parts tab). Once cured, this SI 5926 remains elastic.
SI 5699 grey silicone gasket
This grey silicone gasket is more fuel resistant than the blue version, but once cured, it is less elastic. This gasket can also be used universally, but due to its lower elasticity it is more suitable for sealing connecting surfaces. This grey gasket is also less suitable for use in crankcase halves and not at all for the cylinder head gasket of waterboxer engines (WBX) and not under the cylinder head nuts of these engines. Use only the appropriate liquid gasket (listed in the related parts tab).
Curil T2 green gasket
This Curil T2 green gasket is a non-hardening sealing material that is ideally suited for mounting surfaces, especially engine crankcase halves and gearbox halves. This gasket is also recommended by Volkswagen for use under the cylinder head nuts of water boxers (WBX). This gasket can also be used for all other things you might use the grey or blue gasket for. The great advantage is that it does not harden, no remnants of cured gasket material will get into the crankcase. In any professional engine builder, it is the gasket that will always be there.
Aviation liquid gasket
Aviation liquid gasket is similar to Curil T2, and the choice between the two is a matter of personal preference. This sealant, originally developed for aviation, does not harden and remains flexible. Unlike silicone sealant, it is resistant to a wide range of fluids such as gasoline, diesel, and oil. It fills in small irregularities and reinforces the gasket, giving you a durable seal that can withstand vibrations and temperature differences. It is also easy to apply and remove later, which makes disassembly easier.
