Product description
Very early on, Volkswagen prepared the body and chassis for the fitting of seat belts. In those days, seat belts were an option that could be ticked off on the order form. Most Volkswagen buyers preferred the radio or other accessories to seat belts, which were rarely worn anyway.
Things changed in 1968, when seat belts became compulsory for newly delivered cars in the USA and the UK, among other countries. Soon after, other countries followed suit. From then on, driver and passenger seat belts were fitted as standard ex-factory. Seat belts on the rear seats were only supplied from the factory on the latest VW Vanagon series, when they became mandatory there too.
As we mentioned, the body and chassis had been prepared for fitting long before the introduction of the seatbelt requirement, the fixing points being carefully finished with plastic cover bolts.
In many beltless restorations, these plastic bolts have been damaged or lost over the years. Use these new cover bolts to close the holes neatly, just as Volkswagen did back then, straight from the factory.
