Product description
The bolts used to mount the rear wheel bearing cover to the rear axle were specially designed for this specific application. Not only the length and hardness are unique, but the wrench size also differs from a standard M10 bolt. These bolts use a 14 mm wrench size because the available space inside the cover is limited.
Volkswagen originally discontinued the short bolts that were specifically intended for the older Volkswagen axles. As a replacement, the longer bolts intended for the newer Volkswagen models had to be used. To compensate for the difference in length, extra washers needed to be added. This was never used from the factory and was only intended as a replacement solution.
In addition, the shorter bolts for the older models were equipped with a locating tip, which made installation much easier. This feature is missing on the later longer bolts. Always make sure to order the correct bolts for your Volkswagen model and year as listed with the bolts. These new bolts are 100% identical to the original, with exactly the same specifications.
