The Volkswagen Beetle, the VW Type 3 and the VW Thing are the only Volkswagens to have removable rear fenders, which is easier to replace for a restoration than when this is not the case, for example with the Volkswagen Bus and the Karmann Ghia.
On Volkswagen Bus and Karmann Ghia models, you will have to grind the rusted part and restore it to its former glory by welding a repair part.
The rear panels of the Volkswagen Bay Window Bus from the 1968 and 1972 model years are available in two qualities. The A quality has a perfect fit, press and overall finish. With the B quality, all of this is a bit less, which will not be a problem for the motivated sheet metal worker. The budget to be spent and the skills of the sheet metal worker will determine the choice between A and B quality.
The wheel arches for the Volkswagen Vanagon are even available in three versions, a separate arch repair plate, a cover plate with side panel and the cover plate with a partial inside the wing. The first two are partial repair parts and the last one is a complete repair part, which can be replaced in its entirety by drilling spot welds.
