There are several ways to perform a restoration. Grinding out the defects, welding a piece and finishing with putty is still a common method. This method is inexpensive but it will never be 100% invisible.
The best way to restore is to drill the sheets at the spot welds and replace them as a whole. You will then be sure that nothing will be visible from your restoration.
